The Stanbic Bank Ghana PLC has reaffirmed its annual commitment to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi by donating fifty (50) brand-new HP laptops to support the Vice-Chancellor's initiative dubbed, "Support One Needy Student with One Laptop (SONSOL) Project”. The donation, which took place on Friday, 30th August 2024, at the Council Chamber of the University, brings the bank's total contribution to the Project to two hundred and fifty (250) laptops since the initiative began in 2020. This generous support continues to enhance access to technology for underprivileged students at KNUST.

Mr. Kwamina Asomaning the Chief Executive Officer of the Bank, praised the strong partnership between Stanbic Bank and KNUST, reiterating the Bank’s dedication to supporting the University's initiatives. He highlighted the focus on enhancing digital literacy, particularly for female students reading STEM programmes, and mentioned that the bank also offers mentorship opportunities to further develop students' digital skills.

Mr. Mawuko Afadzinu, Head of Brand and Marketing of Stanbic Bank Ghana PLC, explained that the donation reflects Stanbic Bank’s longstanding commitment to supporting STEM projects at KNUST. He emphasised that the Bank’s vision aligns closely with the University’s drive to promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education.

Receiving the laptops, the Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson expressed her gratitude for the donation. She emphasised that KNUST is committed to producing graduates who are committed and dedicated to serve Ghana and the global community. She noted the significant impact of the donation in advancing digital literacy among students, particularly females in STEM disciplines, and stressed the importance of promoting equal access to educational resources to all students. She commended Stanbic Bank Ghana PLC for its unwavering support over the years and expressed optimism about future collaborations. She assured the delegation that the laptops would be distributed to deserving students, particularly those identified as brilliant but needy, to help them succeed in their studies.
The delegation was led by Mr. Kwamina Asomaning, Chief Executive Officer, and includes key members such as Mr. Victor Manu Yeboah, Chief Finance Officer; Mr. Musah Abdallah, Head of Corporate and Investment Banking; Mr. Mawuko Afadzinu, Head of Brand and Marketing; Mr. Richard Asare, Head of Public Sector; and Mr. Anthony Asare, Regional Manager of the Ashanti Regional Cluster.
